Jennings lures Midland for 38-acre development

Using tax abatement as bait, the city of Jennings has caught just the kind of fish it wanted: the Midland Development Group with a proposal to develop 38 acres.

Midland's plan includes a $15 million, 200,000-square-foot shopping center and other separate retail and office operations along both sides of West Florissant Avenue between Acme Avenue and Jennings Station Road.

To attract developers, Jennings created the 38-acre redevelopment district where improvements to property will not be taxed for a period of time to be determined.
