An African drum replaces the acoustic guitar as the low-tech partymaker

The West African djembe is to the new millennium what the acoustic guitar was to the 1960s: a low-tech partymaker. Young Parisians play it in parks, Californians tote it to mountaintops and tourists can find it on sale from Mali to Polynesia.
