Austin biotech company establishes local lab to process gonorrhea tests

Austin's GenTrans Technology Inc. recently opened a laboratory on the North Side to process diagnostic tests for sexually transmitted diseases.

The new lab, a division of GenTrans which opened about three weeks ago, currently processes gonorrhea and chlamydia tests mailed here from clinics and physicians all over the country, said Jerry Richmond, president and chief executive officer of the newly formed company.

One of the laboratory's main clients is the state of Texas, which sends gonorrhea tests from small cities such as Del Rio, El Campo and Fort Stockton here for analysis. …
