MOTIVATING ADOLESCENTS TO ACCEPT TREATMENT

We all hear stories about chemically-dependent adolescents who go through treatment programs and are using drugs again the same day they are discharged. We wonder about what went wrong and why they relapsed. These adolescents did not relapse; they never entered recovery.

They went into treatment still believing that they could control chemicals and that they were not chemically dependent. They went along with the recovery game plan while in treatment with no real belief that they could or would remain sober.
