PSE junks plan to extend trading hours to 4 p.m.

THE PHILIPPINE Stock Exchange has junked a plan to implement a longer afternoon trading session from 2 to 4 p.m. due to opposition from many local brokers.

However, PSE chair Vivian Yuchengco said she would continue to campaign for the extension of afternoon trading hours in order to put the local stock market in sync with the global markets.

A survey earlier conducted by the PSE's floor trading and arbitrage committee (FTAC) showed that only 21 percent of member-brokers agreed with the foreign brokers' proposal to extend trading up to 4 p.m. On the other hand, 51 percent voted to retain the existing 1-2:30 p.m. trading …
