TEL AVIV -- Bank Hapoalim and Israel Discount Bank confirmed Monday, July 8, that they are in talks about the sale of Israel Discount Bank of New York, but the two banks declined to confirm local press reports of a $750 million price tag on the deal.
"The contacts are in their preliminary stage, and no agreement has been reached," added a source close to the talks, who also said that the purchase price was still under discussion. Bank Hapoalim is Israel's largest bank; the financially troubled Israel Discount Bank is the nation's third-largest bank.
