Sure, you've heard of the Fourth of July. But what about the Fourth's lesser hailed sibling, the Eighth of July? Here are some equally obscure siblings.
* Mitsubishi GALANT GTZ
Price: $24,712
Engine: 3.0-liter V6, 195 hp, 205 lb-ft
Curb weight: 3296 lbs
Drivetrain: fwd, four-speed automatic
Mitsubishi's best-selling vehicle, the Galant, is but a blip on the radar screen of American car sales-and doesn't do much better in name recognition. Montero and Eclipse enjoy greater awareness, as does the Lancer increasingly, thanks to its rally-inspired, coming-soon-to-a-dealer-near-you Evo version. For 2001, Mitsu moved fewer than 94,000 Galants into the hands of buyers, and those sold in part due to incentives (currently zero down, 0 percent financing for a year and nothing due for 12 months) the likes of which Honda and Toyota never seem to have to offer. Funny thing is, we've always kinda liked the Galant. Yet consider that Honda sold nearly 415,000 Accords last year, and it appears Galant will stay in the shadows of more popular Japanese sedans.
