The three-year tease by Nissan is over. Since the company first hinted it might build a new Z car, we've been anticipating our first turn at the wheel much like Cinderella eyed the ball. Our pulse quickened with each new design study, and when we finally had a chance to drive a development car last fall in Japan (AW, Nov. 26, 2001), a car described as 60 percent of the final product, it only made us want to dance more.
While most fairy tales have a happy ending, the car business sometimes turns into more of a horror story. Months of anticipation can turn into utter frustration while in the driver's seat.
