2002 JUL 11 - (NewsRx.com & NewsRx.net) -- EntreMed, Inc., (ENMD) a company focused on angiogenesis research and product development, released additional phase I data demonstrating that Panzem is well tolerated and stabilized disease for prolonged periods in patients with refractory metastatic breast cancer.
Panzem provided clinical benefit in several patients. Further, clinical investigators reported that Panzem, a natural metabolite of estrogen in capsule form, did not alter patient hormone levels. The data were presented at the American Society of Clinical Oncology annual meeting in Orlando.
Clinical investigator George Sledge, MD, Ballve-Lantero professor of oncology at Indiana University School of Medicine, commented, "In this phase I study we are working to determine the safety of Panzem in these patients, all heavily treated previously for advanced breast cancer.
