2002 JUL 11 - (NewsRx.com & NewsRx.net) -- Schering-Plough Corp. (SGP) reported that results of a randomized phase III clinical study evaluating Caelyx (pegylated liposomal doxorubicin hydrochloride), a long-circulating pegylated liposomal formulation of the cancer drug doxorubicin, in the first-line treatment of metastatic breast cancer were presented at the 38th annual meeting of the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO).
The clinical study compared Caelyx to doxorubicin, one of the standard first-line treatments for women with metastatic breast cancer. Results of the clinical study demonstrated that Caelyx has an improved therapeutic index relative to doxorubicin in this indication, while providing comparable efficacy and significantly reducing cardiac toxicity.
