2002 JUL 10 - (NewsRx.com & NewsRx.net) -- Theratechnologies has announced the successful completion of a phase II clinical trial to determine the efficacy and safety profile of the ThGRF (TH9507) peptide on the immune response of elderly people to influenza vaccine.
This phase II trial was a proof-of-concept study to determine ThGRF's potential to improve the immune system of patients who experience immune dysfunctions.
The chosen model for this study was influenza vaccination in elderly patients, known to be prone to medical complications related to influenza, especially pneumonia, because of their impaired immune system. This model permitted rapid access to a homogeneous group of patients, all exposed to an identical immunological challenge with a vaccine.
