Winterizing Your Exercise Program

The extreme conditions of winter weather often make it necessary to adjust or change your regular exercise routine. A variation can be very beneficial, especially if you've been doing the same type of exercise for some time. The change can also provide a much desired psychological lift just by the mere fact that you are doing something different. And, even better, when you do return to your regular exercise program, you will be refreshed and eager to tackle it with new motivation.

If you are fortunate enough to be able to take advantage of the wonderful winter sports like skiing, ice skating, sledding, tobogganing, or just plain hiking in the snow, then you will be subjecting your body to some of the best cardiovascular exercise in the world. Or, if you are not an outdoor exerciser, you may find joining a gym, fitness center, health club or exercise class just for the winter season worthwhile.

However, if you are an outdoor exerciser and want to remain so year round, you don't have to let cold weather restrict you to inside activities provided you are careful to wear the proper clothing and take special precautions.
