Hotel occupancy rates improve in January, but average stay slips.

The hotel industry entered the new year on a stronger footing as the occupancy rate of classified hotels in Metro Manila rose slightly for the January survey. However, the average length of stay of hotel guests dropped slightly for all hotel classifications.

Overall occupancy inched higher to 57.42% for the first month of 2002 against the 54.01% recorded the same period the year before, latest data from the Department of Tourism (DoT) revealed. The present 3.4% uptick in occupancy is a reversal of the previous 1.62% dip.
