An analysis of Central Bureau of Statistics figures by the Ministry of Industry and Trade planning and economy division shows that industrial exports totalled 4.3bn US dollars in the first quarter of 2002, excluding diamonds. This is an 18 per cent decline, compared with the corresponding quarter last year.

High-tech exports fell by a steeper 22.7 per cent, while electronic communications equipment exports dropped 35 per cent. Electronic components 32 per cent, and control and monitoring equipment 26 per cent. …
