Railtrack Group plc, the company that owns Britain's rail network, moved closer to emerging from receivership Thursday, June 27, when it agreed to sell assets to two groups for a total of about pound sterling8.5 billion ($13 billion) in cash and assumed debt.

Railtrack, which owns Britain's rail networks but does not operate trains, had received bids from the government-backed Network Rail Ltd. for the existing rail network and from London & Continental Railways Ltd. for an interest in the Channel Tunnel rail link.
