Mark Reuss' group (AW, Aug. 6, 2001), now officially known as the GM Performance Division, is on the move-upward. General Motors' new performance group is gathering momentum inside the corporation and picking up several hot performance car and truck projects.
GMPD, which ultimately reports to GM design boss Wayne Cherry, is responsible for the design and engineering of limited-production, high-performance cars and trucks.
``For example,'' GM's North American chairman Bob Lutz said, ``say we decide we want to do a special project such as a slammed, high-horsepower Cavalier or Sunfire and we want to build 500 to 1000 a year. Mark's group would take on the design and engineering of a car like that.''
