2002 JUN 27 - (NewsRx.com & NewsRx.net) -- Continuing lack of awareness about osteoporosis is restricting markets for available therapies, according to Frost & Sullivan
Many doctors and potential patients remain unaware of the symptoms of osteoporosis, which is characterized by low bone mass and structural deterioration of bone tissue. Consequently, only one-third of the 10 million Americans suffering from this progressive disease are diagnosed with it.
As long as awareness remains low, markets for therapeutics will fall short of their revenue potential.
New analysis from Frost & Sullivan, "U.S. Emerging Osteoporosis Therapeutics Markets," reveals that this industry generated revenues totaling $3.9 billion in 2001. Total revenues for estrogen replacement therapy, biphosphonates, selective estrogen receptor modulators, calcitonin, and other emerging therapies could reach $7.4 billion in 2008.
In addition to raising disease awareness, market participants will have to highlight the unique advantages of their products to succeed in this field.
