2002 JUN 26 - (NewsRx.com & NewsRx.net) -- Antex Biologics, Inc., (ANX) announced plans for additional clinical trials of its vaccine and antibiotic products and also announced financial results for its first quarter of 2002. The company has two products currently in human clinical trials and plans to have four additional products in clinical trials during the year.
Antex's current clinical trials are for two components of its Activax multivalent vaccine against contaminated food and water diseases. A phase II trial for the Campylobacter component of Activax is being conducted in conjunction with the U.S. Navy in anticipation of a phase III trial next year; and a phase I trial for the Shigella component is being conducted at the Johns Hopkins University vaccine testing unit in Baltimore. These trials should be completed by the end of the year.
Antex is currently manufacturing clinical material for its Helivax whole cell vaccine against Helicobacter pylori infections and for its Tracvax subunit vaccine against Chlamydia trachomatis infections. Helivax will begin a phase II trial later this summer and Tracvax a phase I trial in the fall. Additionally, the company's partner has completed phase I trials in children and infants for a pediatric middle ear infection (otitis media) vaccine; based on the results of these trials, the next evaluation will be a phase II trial.
