2002 JUN 26 - (NewsRx.com & NewsRx.net) -- Vietnam is recalling 1.36 million doses of substandard DPT vaccine, resulting in a shortage, state-controlled media has reported.

The recall involves 1 million doses of DPT vaccine donated by the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) and 360,000 produced by a local company, the Lao Dong (Labor) trade union newspaper said.

"The vaccines did not dissolve completely when shaking. There are some quality problems and the vaccines must be recalled," it quoted Do Si Hien, director of the National Open Vaccination Program, as saying.

The vaccine had been distributed to local clinics, and it is not known how many doses have been administered, he said.
