The Ciudad Soil and Water Conservation District had sought a 1-mill tax from property owners.

It becomes official today: Voters on Monday crushed any hope the Ciudad Soil and Water Conservation District had for support from a property-tax hike.

The tally in the district's special mill-levy election:

*5,437 people voted.

*4,996 voters, or 91.9 percent, opposed the district's request for authorization to levy a tax of up to 1 mill on their property taxes.

*408 voters, or 7.5 percent, supported the measure.

*33 voters, or 0.6 percent, were ruled ineligible …
