Cuba's Celia Cruz, Japanse drum troupe Kodo, Algeria's Cheikha Rimitti, Issa Bagayogo from Mali, Dionysis Savvopoulos, Alkinoos Loannidis and Kristi Stassinopoulou from Greece... where else could you hear all these greats and more free of charge in one single season except in New York City? Or, to be precise, at Central Park SummerStage? The three- month outdoor music festival on the east side of Central Park returns on June 14, running until September 14. And did we mention that the concerts are free?
This will be the 17th year that SummerStage feeds free music from all over the world to the masses. This year, it will serve another great- tasting platter: 90 artists from 27 different countries; music ranging from Cuban salsa to Argentine rock to Australian dance music, and special evenings of opera and spoken word.
