Botched tax election offers apt warning

Monday's catastrophic vote on a proposed property tax increase for an obscure, local conservation agency is a monument to political stupidity.

Unfortunately, New Mexico needs such monuments to embarrass fresh crops of government leaders, because they're tempted to pull stunts like this again and again.

Angry voters lined up by the hundreds to pummel a proposed, up-to-1-mill property tax increase for the Ciudad Soil and Water Conservation District.
