Gazprom chief executive Alexei Miller has discussed the possibility of creating a joint venture with Russian shareholders in Rusia Petroleum, which is operator of the 1.8bn [m.sup.3] Kovykta gas field in eastern Siberia.
Miller met representatives of Tyumen Oil (TNK), which owns 27pc of Rusia, and the Irkutsk regional administration, whose 11pc stake is managed by BP. A senior Gazprom official confirms to Argus that the gas giant wants a leading role in the project, but he was unable to explain how Gazprom, which lacks funds for new projects, intends to pay its way.
