The Government of Tamil Nadu (TN) has decided to levy a sales tax of 24 percent on OPC cement if its selling price, inclusive of sales tax, exceeds Rs145 a bag. A similar tax of 24 percent will also be levied on PPC cement if its selling price, inclusive of sales tax, exceeds Rs135 a bag.

A sales tax of five percent has been levied on second and subsequent sales of both the cements. For the cement sold below this price, the present rate of 16 percent for first sale …
