After a year and a half as interim dean for the College of Charleston's School of Education, Frances Welch lost the "interim" part of her title this week.
"I am thrilled to be in this position," Welch said. "I think we have great potential."
Welch became interim dean in January 2001. She already has plans for the School of Education and hopes to work out a vision and a set of goals with the faculty in the fall.
President Lee Higdon sent out an announcement to employees about Welch's selection. "Dr. Welch's understanding of the School of Education, the college, the local education community, and the state education community, as well as her record as interim dean, made her an ideal choice to provide both the stability and the energy necessary to lead the School of Education forward," he wrote.
