F-Type jagged

Jaguar's mid-engined F-Type sports car is delayed three years says Bob Dover, chairman of Ford's British Premier Automotive Group. Scheduled to go on sale in early 2005, Jag's Porsche Boxster-fighter is now penciled in for 2008.

The aluminum-chassis F-Type was strongly supported by Wolfgang Reitzle, head of PAG until last month. Insiders say PAG missed its financial targets last year, which puts pressure on more urgent product needs, including redesigns of XJ sedan, XK convertible and the S-Type.

Jaguar also will spend more on X-Type and S-Type diesel variants, which have been losing sales in Europe where the technology is increasingly popular. The F-Type delay also makes a launch of an X-Type wagon more likely.
