2002 MAY 29 - (NewsRx.com & NewsRx.net) -- DynPort Vaccine Company LLC (DVC), a joint venture between DynCorp of Reston, Virginia, and Porton International, Inc., announced that it will enter into a large phase I clinical trial consisting of approximately 150 volunteers for a new smallpox vaccine.
DVC's trial is the largest study conducted to date that compares a smallpox vaccine, developed through state-of-the-art large-scale cell culture technology, to the previously licensed vaccine (Dryvax), which is currently in limited supply.
The phase I trial will be conducted at the University of Kentucky Chandler Medical Center. Students at the university and adults living in the Lexington area who have not been previously vaccinated will be recruited. The study will evaluate tolerability, safety, and immunogenicity of DVC's new vaccine as compared with Dryvax.
