2002 MAY 22 - (NewsRx.com & NewsRx.net) -- Celltrion, Inc., a joint venture owned by VaxGen, Inc., (VXGN) and a group of South Korean investors, announced the appointment of directors and interim senior officers to lead the company in its establishment of facilities for the manufacture of VaxGen's AIDS vaccine candidates.
James P. Panek was named Celltrion's interim cochief executive. Panek, who previously led the development of the world's largest biotechnology facility as senior vice president of product operations at Genentech, Inc., will also continue to serve as VaxGen's senior vice president of manufacturing operations.
"Jim helped Genentech grow into one of, if not the most, successful biotechnology manufacturing companies in the world," said Lance K. Gordon, PhD, VaxGen's chief executive officer. "He is uniquely qualified to colead Celltrion in its mission to support the approval and commercial introduction of our vaccine candidates, if they are licensed, and the development and manufacture of additional products." ...
