Speed: When there's not enough, you want for more. And when there's plenty, there's still not enough.

* Ford THUNDERBIRD

Curb weight: 3863 lbs

``It is stylish before it is anything else,'' we said of Thunderbird just about a year ago. And it ``may not be the fastest flier on the planet, but it's quick enough,'' we said earlier this year. We still believe both. But for a car that's hyped as little more than a pretty-to-look-at boulevardier, good for looking cool while cruising around town on hot summer nights and not much else, the Thunderbird packs a decent amount of straight-line punch. Its 3.9-liter V8 pumps out a smooth 252 horses, moving the fairly hefty 'Bird from a standstill to 60 mph in 7.25 seconds, giving it quicker straight-line acceleration than even its Lincoln LS platform-mate. Not bad for just a pretty face.
