2002 MAY 16 - (NewsRx.com & NewsRx.net) -- Hormone replacement therapy can halve breast artery hardening (calcification), and it's an effect that can be picked up during a breast screen, reveals a study in the Journal of Medical Screening.
The extent of breast calcification may indicate underlying vascular disease, including diabetes and high blood pressure, and be a risk factor for cardiovascular heart attack and stroke.
A group of 4400 women were screened for breast abnormalities. The women were all between the ages of 49-66 years, and information was collected on their use of HRT.
