The hot book among Japan's elite is written as a children's story, "The Lion Cannot Get to Sleep." Penned by the pseudonymous "Samuel Ryder," the allegorical tale about Japan's economic crisis has inspired debates in the national Legislature. Toyota Motor Corp. chairman Hiroshi Okuda reportedly recommends it to everyone he meets. The hero is a lion who rules a land populated mainly by rats, and averts economic catastrophe by taxing all the rodents for 30 percent of their net worth. The big cat, of course, is Junichiro Koizumi, Japan's silver-maned prime minister. The rats are the long-suffering Japanese people, about to suffer more.
