Sudan urges Arab states to back Saudi Arabia's Middle East peace plan.

Sudanese Vice-President Ali Uthman Muhammad Taha has called on leaders in the Arab world to support the new Saudi peace plan for the Middle East. Taha made the call in an address at the Arab League summit in Beirut. The following is an excerpt of Taha's speech broadcast live by Sudanese TV on 27 March; all subheadings inserted editorially:

In the name of God, the most merciful, the most compassionate, praise be to God; the guardian to the right path and peace be upon His prophet.

Your excellencies, your highnesses, HE President Emile Lahhud, the chairman of the summit, brother secretary-general [of the Arab League] may the peace and blessings of Allah be upon you.
