SEPANG, March 17 (Bernama) -- The Formula 1 Malaysian Petronas Grand Prix is one of the major sports events that can promote sports tourism in Malaysia apart from giving high returns of about RM1 billion to the country, Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi said today.

He said Malaysia had also become more famous as its name as the host nation had been aired all over the world through the international media coverage of the event.

"The organising of this event in Malaysia is good for the country's economy. We are getting many side benefits from organising this race," Abdullah said.
