2002 MAY 8 - (NewsRx.com & NewsRx.net) -- Antigenics, Inc., (AGEN) announced interim results from phase II trials evaluating Oncophage (HSPPC-96), the company's personalized cancer vaccine, in the treatment of both advanced melanoma and colorectal cancer.
Described in an oral presentation at the 93rd annual meeting of the American Association for Cancer Research, the data show that in these patients, treatment with Oncophage can induce significant expansion of cancer-specific immune responses, and that the induction mechanism is the same for both cancers.
"We have seen very similar immunological responses to Oncophage treatment in kidney cancer, melanoma and colorectal cancer," said Jonathan Lewis, MD, PhD, chief medical officer of Antigenics, Inc. "That the vaccine employs the same mode of action regardless of cancer type provides a very strong basis for continued investigation of the use of Oncophage across a broad array of cancers."
Oncophage is a personalized cancer vaccine tailored for each patient.
