Taipei, March 15, 2002 (CENS)--Texas Instruments (TI) executive vice president and chief operating officer Richard K. Templeton predicted that Taiwan would emerge as a global center for contract production of cell phones in five years. The TI executive made the comment at the eight-day Hanover CeBIT electronics show, which began on March 13. TI is the biggest maker of digital signal processors for mobile phones. Templeton noted that top cell phone makers are contracting cost-efficient dedicated manufacturers to produce their handsets to hone their competitive edge.
