The economy will likely post a softer increase in the first quarter this year as foreseen in the latest leading economic index (LEI), the National Statistical Coordination Board (NSCB) reported.
The LEI, which shows trends in the business cycle, went down further to a negative 0.4041 from a negative 0.3352 in the fourth quarter.
But, in spite of the decline, the NSCB said that the economy remains resilient.
"The decline in the LEI does not necessarily mean a contraction. Instead, it just suggests a lower growth figure than, say, a year ago," a source from the NSCB said.
