Kirch is kaput?

Unthinkable! Leo Kirch is the media king of Germany. He's too powerful to go under. Also too arrogant.

That's what most media mavens assured me -- until a few weeks ago. But now the Kirch empire is in ruins and the sight of the world's media barons picking at the scraps is positively surreal.

There's Rupert Murdoch scrutinizing one fragment, and Silvio Berlusconi another. (He seems to have lots of time for dealmaking despite the fact that he allegedly runs Italy.)
