Hyundai may shift small car production base to Chennai.

STATESMAN NEWS SERVICE BANGALORE, Feb. 23. - The South Korean auto giant, Hyundai Motors, proposes to shift the production base of small cars to its Indian facility in Chennai. While in Korea its small car version is known as the Vertis, the Indian counterpart is marketed as the Santro.

According to company sources, Hyundai Motors proposes to export the small car to South Korea and other countries from its Indian base once the proposal to shift the production base works out. The expectation is that the entire shift and consequent production in India could come about in a matter of two years.
