[Presenter] Angolan External Affairs Minister Joao Miranda this morning met representatives of the UN and of the troika countries overseeing the peace process, namely Russia, Portugal and the USA, in Luanda. He took the opportunity to inform them officially of the death of UNITA [National Union for the Total Independence of Angola] leader Jonas Savimbi. This is an excerpt of an interview by reporter David Borges with minister Joao Miranda broadcast by [Portuguese state radio] RDP Africa today:

[Miranda] I conveyed to them, in person and officially, the news of the death of Jonas Malheiro Savimbi who, up to 1700 hours yesterday was the leader of UNITA's military wing …
