KARACHI : Pakistan was the largest importer with just over 63 million kilograms of tea in the world in year 2001.
According to statistics of tea export figures released by East African Tea Traders Association (EATTA) from Kenya for January-December 2001, to world-wide destinations, UK is close behind with just over 62 million KGs, followed by Egypt with about 49 million KGs.
Interestingly, Afghanistan, which does not consume any Kenyan CTC variety of tea, is the 4th largest buyer having bought over 21 million KGs valued at US$ 34.5 million.
