Tokyo, 12 February: Foreign Minister Yoriko Kawaguchi pledged Tuesday [12 February] to make efforts to reduce inappropriate influence on the ministry's decision-making, especially involving politicians exerting influence on foreign policy.

In announcing her 10-point basic policy for reforming the corruption-riddled Foreign Ministry, she also promised to work on eliminating the elitist mentality among the ministry's career diplomats and reorganizing the personnel systems.
