Goods worth millions of shillings have been irregularly acquired by the Ministry of Energy, the Nation can reveal today.

The money spent on cars, laptop computers, carpets and other items - most of which the ministry did not need - has deprived other crucial sections of funding and almost forced some departments to grind to a halt.

One deputy secretary, Mr Nicholas Kanyiri, was transferred allegedly for questioning why carpets and furniture the ministry did not need had been ordered and then charged to a project development account.
