New US policy on kidnappings not applicable to RP, says DFA.

A purported shift in US policy regarding kidnapped American citizens in foreign countries does not apply to the Philippines, the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) yesterday said.

"Right now, I don't think it's applicable to us. Maybe we should make a distinction within those countries that are not doing anything about terrorism and kidnapping," Foreign Affairs spokesman Victoriano M. Lecaros told reporters.

"That's a category to which we hardly belong because we've been in this anti-terror drive and anti-kidnapping drive for the longest time," he added.
