Pres. Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo's controversial crackdown on the ukay- ukay industry which has made Baguio the wagwagan capital of Asia, and probably of the world, received mixed reactions from both her cronies and critics. Local textile manufacturers, reeling from the drowning influx of cheap, unused and/or used garments from overseas, lauded GMA's resolve to flush out from our industry this flourishing trade which has even sprouted in local flea markets beyond Baguio City's borders.

GMA's position on the matter is well on-track considering that penal and anti-dumping laws proscribe the massive entry of clothing goods into the country …
