THEY'RE HERE ! After months of anticipation, Data General has finally introduced the first two members of a new generation of Eclipse MV/ Family systems based on its new proprietary chip. The systems surpass the price/performance of previous systems by over 200 percent and offer an easy upgrade path. in addition, the systems offer lower cost-per-MIPS than competing systems from Digital and IBM.
Based on the same microprocessor, the low-end MV/5500 DC and mid-range MV/ 9500 deliver a processing performance of 5 MIPS Both systems represent the first time the Eclipse MV/Family CPU architecture has been implemented on a single integrated circuit. This reduces chip count and allows more space on the system board for memory, 1/0 and other features to enhance reliability and overall system performance.
The MV/5500 DC extends performance of DG's low-end systems from 1.7 MIPS for the MV/2500 DC to the 5-MIPS level. The MV/9500 represents the center of the company's mid-range line, more than doubling the price/performance of the MV/15000 …
