Taipei, 30 January: The Republic of China government's efforts to reinforce the protection of intellectual property rights (IPRs) have paid off especially after the country was formally admitted into the Geneva-based World Trade Organization, according to an Investigation Bureau official.

Under the directive of local prosecutors, police officers and investigators simultaneously made an islandwide sweep of factories involved in counterfeiting operations and discovered a large quantity of fakes, according to an Investigation Bureau (BI) official.
