Vietnamese prime minister discusses rural development with farmers' association.

Vietnamese Prime Minister Phan Van Khai held a working session with the Vietnam Farmers' Association [VFA] in Hanoi on 23 January.

At the session, VFA leaders briefed the prime minister on the association's achievements over the past two years, especially in socioeconomic development, building of new rural areas, implementation of the poverty reduction programme, and job generation, as well as promoting democracy at the grass-roots level.

During the 2000-2001 period, the association carried out 98 projects, with a total investment capital of 7.5bn Vietnamese dong, created jobs for 3,544 workers, and …
