Taipei, Jan. 31, 2002 (CENS)--The New Taiwan dollar finished higher against the U.S. dollar for the fifth straight session, mostly supported by a firmer yen, market dealers said

The N.T. dollar rose NT$0.016 against the greenback to close at NT$34.985, up from the previous close of NT$35.001. The local currency opened at NT$45.052 and was traded between NT$34.970 and NT$35.052

Interbank transactions were valued at US$383 million, up slightly from US$373 million seen in the previous session. Dealers attributed part of the demand for N.T. dollar to the end of the month and the approaching Chinese Lunar New Year holiday in mid-February. The Central Bank of China …
