Youth symphony names Amir Kats new conductor.(Evening)

After a national search, the Albuquerque Youth Symphony Program board of directors has announced Amir Kats as conductor of the youth symphony.

The 34-year-old clarinetist will replace Dale Kempter, who steps down this year after 37 years on the job.

"I'm thrilled," says Kats from his New York City home. "The setting there is beautiful, the people are great, and the organization is top-notch."

Kats was one of three finalists two local who auditioned for the position in March.
