ISLAMABAD : The ad hoc Public Accounts Committee (PAC) has directed the government to evolve a new system so that taxes received on utility bills should go directly to the government treasury.

It asked the Central Board of Revenue (CBR) to assist the Finance Ministry to finalise modalities for the new system.

The committee issued these observations here on Thursday while hearing audit objections pertaining to CBR of 1999-2000. Chairman, H.U. Beg, who presided over the meeting, noted that utilities were misusing revenue collected on bills under tax provision.
